Oshkosh EAA AirVenture Museum
Pioneer Airport
at the EAA AirVenture Museum, is one of the premier General Aviation
museums in the country, and one of our favorite places to fly a kite once a year. The entire airport is a replica of an old airport from the early days
of aviation. It makes for an ideal area to fly kites because of the large open runway and green spaces.
With the EAA AirVenture Museum right next door, and the strong winds from the west, Pioneer airport is a great place to hold a kite festival, at least
for the one day of Wings on Strings in June of each year.
The EAA AirVenture Museum opened it's door in 1983 and has been a huge tourist attraction each year, and especially in July during EAA AirVenture,
an air show and convention attended by thousands of airplanes and aviation enthusiast throughout the seven days. Imagine over 20,000 airplanes and 750,000 people in attendance. WOW!
